Who will have the home and away sides for both games this weekend up at UVA-Wise?
It worked out great this year, but I'm with you the higher seed should play at home. I'm glad the games are at Wise so I can watch them both, but really to me that game should be played at the Park. I doubt you'll find much argument from Norton or PV in regards to the game being played at UVA-Wise and they are the higher seeds.

I would say that the higher rated seeds would have the home side. Meaning PV and JIB.
I've not been up there since Appy/Bath though. Have they finally got seating on the visitors side?

Since Burton and PV are the higher seed, I would say they will be the home teams.
I'll always want a little more than I already have.
I think #1 seeds get the home side, don't they?

[/ QUOTE ]There in lies the problem. No knock on my friends from JIB, but looking at the pics from their field Sat, they would soon face the same song as Appy if they chose to play at home. Between Appy's past years and JIB's current run, none of the rest of the districts would want to play on our fields in November. When the complaints started it was really funny. Someone complaining about Appy's wet field slowing them down and Chris Clark slipping and stumbling about also....
Well,the problems started at Norton when the new lights got installed 5 or 6 years ago. The drilling crew hit a natural spring drilling for the pole on the home side track end of the bleachers where the band sits. That pole is around the25-30 yard line and theres a big puddle of water there and they put in pipe down the sideline but it still doesn't drain and they think the Bypass changed the way the water table and contributed to the water under the stadium.
I think there going to add a culvert type box where it's wet down the sidelines and run some more drain pipe across the field after the season maybe that will help.
Also, if JMU has put in field turf then the maybe whomever makes it the finals might call Letcher central and see if they can practice a couple of times there. I know they have it as Burton's JV team and a fewothers in the District as well had a game over there, I heard it looked real nice .

I don't think there is an ideal situation for the playoffs. Even in basketball, the region is rotating playoffs between the LPD, BDD, and Cumberland, with games at Clintwood Elem, Clinchco Elem, and Castlewood High. If they stay with the same premise, throw the new district in the mix. Some have suggested that the playoffs should just be held at one place like VA High. But, Region D covers a lot of territory, so you've always got some teams having to travel a long distance every year.
Great facilities are nice, but I think you have to weigh in travel distance too.

I don't know how things will play out, but the addition of Lebanon and Virginia High to Region D will throw two great gyms into the mix. That drive to Bristol is a [censored] though. I kind of liked being with a 30 minute drive all of all the Region D host sites.

Looks like if that is all, they could rip it up and put in some fill lines and a drain to take it away from the stadium.
I'm sure there is good drainage on the other side of the fence on the visitors side of the field.
In all honesty because a few coaches huffed and puffed many teams lost the right to play games on their field.
Granted the fields need work. But with that said who wants to travel all the way to Harrisonburg to see a game.
It's a nice place but that is not a neutral site for teams. And not many highschool teams play on turf all year.
I wish around here they would allocate some money to fix these fields, and play the games, where they were meant to be played, on natural grass fields.
And get away from this neutral site. If a team makes it to be the number one seed in a title game. They deserve to play it where they want. Not where it's convient for the VHSL.
